Top Gun Anniversary

This video was shot during the Top Gun Anniversary that took place in Oceanside this last week.  The 1st Marine Division Band was there to provide some great musical entertainment to those that gathered to take part in the festivities.
Don't miss the thunderous ending!
And from the left side...

Oh, why not?!?

Wrong gig?

So, I'm sure that everyone has seen the video (below) of the drummer who is "at the wrong gig".

Well, after some snooping around, I found a video that sheds some light on where he gets his awesome moves.  This seems like a great reason to study the music of other cultures!  Take a look.
Start at 3:00

Bonus Video!

Buddy Rich Vs. Animal

This episode was aired in 1980.  That makes it older than me!
Enjoy the Drum-off!

Muppets Vs. Marines

Firstly, don't forget to "follow" my blog.  This makes it easier for you to stay caught up on my updates.  The button is on the top left corner of my page.

Now, if you haven't seen the original "Sax and Violence"video, here's your chance.  It's pretty priceless.  If you haven't seen the 1st Marine Division Big Band perform it, then you missed out on something beautiful!  I know it's not strictly percussion, but it's pretty entertaining still.  The Marine version starts at about 3:30.  Enjoy!

Idols and Hellcats

Did everyone catch the American Idol Finals last night?
The absolute ONLY reason why I watched it was because of the awesome TAMA presence during one of the performances.  It looked pretty sweet.  Check out the video and check out those drums!

The video below is of the Hellcats.
The Hellcats are an ensemble that exists within the West Point Band.  These guys are amazing and I love the way that those rope drums sound.  If you'd like some more great listening, stay tuned because Jeff Prosperie will show up on here another day with one of his amazing Snare Drum Solos.
My only question is how the Sergeant Major got stuck on Bass Drum...  Enjoy!

Mozambique - Nate Morton

It's always good to be able to laugh at your playing... Exhibit A.
I had the opportunity of running into Nate in an airport and after having a very nice conversation with him, I just had to follow his career.

Nate Morton is currently in the house band for the TV show "The Voice".  Heard of it?  I figured.  If you're watching a show and you see a drummer in the back jumping up and down, it's probably Nate.  Listing Animal as one of his mentors, you can understand why.  Enjoy!

Marine Corps Rock Band in San Clemente, CA

Here's a video of the 1st Marine Division Rock Band playing in San Clemente.  This was probably the first stage dive and mosh pit that the Division Band had ever been responsible for.  I miss playing with you guys!
