Street drumming
This guy has great groove with his (true to its name) trap set.
And one more for the fun of it.
Keyboard Percussion
Here are a couple excellent examples of Marimba playing.
I hope you enjoy the second one, especially - Blast! was a combination of a DCI field show and a Broadway style production.
Tim Jackson
Here's 2 videos of Tim Jackson playing the tenors.
Tim is one of the best tenor players that DCI has ever seen.
You might remember him from a past post about how to not lose your composure if you happen to drop a stick or mallet.
Vocal Percussion
I know it's been a while since I've posted anything but our move to Azusa, CA went great and we are almost completely unpacked!
In the mean time, here are some videos that have vocal percussion in them. It's also known as mouth drumming or beat boxing. This production of sound is difficult to learn and to become great at. Like other instruments, consistency of sound is very tough to achieve due to the vast continuum of ways that our mouth, air and vocal chords can function together.
I hope you enjoy the videos!
The Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps
The Cadets won 1st Place in the DCI Finals in Indianapolis, IN.
Here is a great video of their corps.
2011 DCI I&E Snare Drum Results
Here are the 3rd, 2nd and 1st place finishers for the DCI I&E Snare Drum Competition.
Well done guys!
Great drumming! But who's better?
Nate Morton is back! A very cool live video from The Voice!
Next, Carter Beauford from the Dave Matthews Band.
And Styx. Todd Sucherman is a beast...
Azusa here we come!
Update:
My family and I will be moving to Azusa, CA in a month. I will be attending Azusa Pacific University as a graduate student in their music program.
Please keep my family in your prayers as we move to a new area and a new stage of our lives.
As always, a video:
Below is an awesome video that I hope will make it into your all time favorites list :) Thanks Josh!

Rocking in San Clemente
Another video from the 1st Marine Division Rock Band's performance last year in San Clemente, CA.
D&T
You know what goes really well together? Drums and trumpets.
Today let's take a look at a couple of videos that feature a couple of outstanding trumpet players. If you haven't seen these videos before, then you're in for a treat!

In summary, when you drop a stick, DON'T FLIP OUT! Here's 3 good videos of mistakes that were saved by a quick recovery.

Colts Drum and Bugle Corps
In 2004, I was the timpanist for the Colts Drum and Bugle Corps from Dubuque, IA. I only had the opportunity to march with the Colts for 1 summer, but it was one of the most educational times of my life.
This video is of the Cymbal Ensemble during their I&E performance in Denver, CO. These guys (and gal) were great to work with. They were fun and very passionate about their music. Enjoy!
And there are simply too many notes, that's all...
To show my undying support of comic opera, here's a version of the overture from The Marriage of Figaro that Mozart would be proud of.
Marine Combat Training - Dec 2007
In 2 months, I'll be discharged from the Marine Corps and this is about where it all started.
This is probably my dad's favorite video.
Top Gun Anniversary
This video was shot during the Top Gun Anniversary that took place in Oceanside this last week. The 1st Marine Division Band was there to provide some great musical entertainment to those that gathered to take part in the festivities.
Don't miss the thunderous ending!
And from the left side...
Oh, why not?!?
Wrong gig?
So, I'm sure that everyone has seen the video (below) of the drummer who is "at the wrong gig".
Well, after some snooping around, I found a video that sheds some light on where he gets his awesome moves. This seems like a great reason to study the music of other cultures! Take a look.
Start at 3:00
Bonus Video!
Buddy Rich Vs. Animal
This episode was aired in 1980. That makes it older than me!
Enjoy the Drum-off!
Muppets Vs. Marines
Firstly, don't forget to "follow" my blog. This makes it easier for you to stay caught up on my updates. The button is on the top left corner of my page.
Now, if you haven't seen the original "Sax and Violence"video, here's your chance. It's pretty priceless. If you haven't seen the 1st Marine Division Big Band perform it, then you missed out on something beautiful! I know it's not strictly percussion, but it's pretty entertaining still. The Marine version starts at about 3:30. Enjoy!

Idols and Hellcats
Did everyone catch the American Idol Finals last night?
The absolute ONLY reason why I watched it was because of the awesome TAMA presence during one of the performances. It looked pretty sweet. Check out the video and check out those drums!
The video below is of the Hellcats.
The Hellcats are an ensemble that exists within the West Point Band. These guys are amazing and I love the way that those rope drums sound. If you'd like some more great listening, stay tuned because Jeff Prosperie will show up on here another day with one of his amazing Snare Drum Solos.
My only question is how the Sergeant Major got stuck on Bass Drum... Enjoy!
Mozambique - Nate Morton
It's always good to be able to laugh at your playing... Exhibit A.
I had the opportunity of running into Nate in an airport and after having a very nice conversation with him, I just had to follow his career.
Nate Morton is currently in the house band for the TV show "The Voice". Heard of it? I figured. If you're watching a show and you see a drummer in the back jumping up and down, it's probably Nate. Listing Animal as one of his mentors, you can understand why. Enjoy!
Marine Corps Rock Band in San Clemente, CA
Here's a video of the 1st Marine Division Rock Band playing in San Clemente. This was probably the first stage dive and mosh pit that the Division Band had ever been responsible for. I miss playing with you guys!
